The von Wreden's Feldjäger Corps proudly represent the Hessian riflemen who served with the British forces during the American War of Independence.
We are a group of people from all ages, professions, and walks of life that are joined in our common love of history and interest in this unique military impression.
Hessian Feldjäger served through almost every major action during the American Revolution. The specialist troops of their time, they were known for their marksmanship and skill and were recruited from huntsmen and gamekeepers to serve in the Hessian army. They carried the short-barreled Jäger Rifle, often their own personal hunting weapon. These elite troops were relied upon by King George III to match the feared American Riflemen...
The unit we portray arrived in America in 1776 was under the command of Jager captain August Von Wreden. He was one of four Jager officers to receive the order Pour la Vertu Militaire, a prestigious award in Hessen-Kassel.

Join us at upcoming events during the 250th Anniversary of these foundational events in American history!
The primary goal of Von Wreden's Feldjager Corp is to educate and engage the public about the Hessian riflemen's contributions during the American War of Independence. We strive to maintain a connection between history and modern society. Come see us and be a part of that mission!

If you're a history nerd, reenacting offers you a chance to step into history among likeminded people. A reenactor enjoys the process of learning about their impression, learning the skills needed to maintain their gear, preparing for the camping trip that is an event, and finally getting to participate in a live demonstration of how an 18th Century soldier lived, fought, ate, and slept.
The days are full of drill, maintenance, cooking, and communicating with interested members of the public just like you reading this. In the evenings, we sit around a campfire and talk history, events, and maybe sing a song or two!
We are focused in Eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, but we have members all up and down the East Coast of the United States, from North Carolina to Vermont!
Most of our events are within 2 hours of Philadelphia, but we regularly attend reenactments in New York, the Carolinas, Virgina, and more!
Start by sending us an email! Give us a little background information about yourself. You will then be contacted by the unit leader for an interview.
If we are a good fit, you will be able to attend an event with us and see how you enjoy the membership and reenacting!
New recruits are provided an extensive guidebook on how to be a reenactor - including how to source your uniform, gear, and rifle. You'll be connected with members who are more than happy to share their knowledge and skills to welcome you to the hobby!
Please come out and see us at an event!

The Feldjäger, either on foot or on horseback, was a specialist - armed with a rifle that could accurately hit up to 300 yards. The British army had no riflemen of their own, and these elite German troops were specially requested to combat the continental rifleman.
When not serving in wars, they were employed as foresters and gamekeepers for the Landgrave, the ruling princes in the Germanic states. These were not all young men, but men with years of service in the forestry profession.
They carried their personal firearms that they would have used in their homeland.
These rifles, while accurate, were slower-loading and could not attach bayonets. Therefore, these detachments were employed in support of regular and light infantry - as well as performing reconnaissance and outflanking the enemy.
